The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is responsible for all aspects of the UK’s maritime safety and marine pollution control and is widely acknowledged as a world-leading authority in its field. As part of the MCA, HM Coastguard is primarily concerned with Search and Rescue (SAR) alerting, response and co-ordination. You will manage, in conjunction with colleague Coastal Safety Managers, the coastal safety activities, including search and rescue, in order to meet the Government’s maritime strategy for safer lives, safer ships and cleaner seas. You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the North East Area, which encompasses the Rescue Co-ordination Centres at Humber and Yarmouth as well as the management of eight Sector Managers. Possessing considerable drive, you will be highly organised with excellent interpersonal, communication, administrative and influencing skills. You will have knowledge of Search and Rescue and emergency planning coupled with a proven track record of leading change and an ability to effectively deal with the press and media in often challenging situations. All these skills will be borne out of a strong, dynamic and proven management background. The post will be based in Bridlington and will involve travel.
