MI5 is now recruiting for Mobile Surveillance Officers in the Greater Manchester area. Surveillance plays a vitally important role within MI5 and is a key investigative resource. It is all about observing the people or places, either on foot or by vehicle. The work calls for first-rate judgment and a flair for thinking on your feet. It's also important that you can work well within a team, and that you have the technical aptitude to get to grips with specialist equipment. Highly observant with an excellent memory for events, you'll be able to remain completely alert during periods of inactivity - then be able to step up several gears when it all starts happening at once. A competent and careful driver, you'll have held a full UK driving licence valid for a manual car for the last three years, and should be able to reach the police advanced driving standard with training. You'll need to blend into the background and be better at seeing than being seen. A reasonable standard of physical fitness is also required, including normal colour perception. Although the work is based in the Greater Manchester area, you will travel extensively around the UK, often at short notice. You will need to live within a commutable distance of Greater Manchester.
